Travel Medical policies are for travelers who are going overseas and need medical insurance. When you travel outside your home country, your health insurance from home might not cover you. If it does, the limits might be too low to cover the expenses, or it might not cover your medical evacuation costs.
Travel Medical insurance is sometimes called International Medical Insurance or a Medical Protection Plan, depending on the company selling it. In general, all of these names refer to medical insurance that covers you while outside your home country.

How is a Travel Medical insurance different from other types of travel insurance?
A Travel Medical policy is for travelers who do not need the extensive coverage of a Package Plan, but do need the medically related coverage. Some Travel Medical policies include a few elements of Package Plan style coverage, but it is not as extensive and the coverage amounts are not as high.
How much does Travel Medical insurance cost?
Since Travel Medical insurance does not provide Trip Cancellation and other Package Plan benefits, the cost can be much lower. In general, the premium amount for a Travel Medical plan is based on:
- The length of the trip
- The age of the traveler
- The amount of coverage
