It provides good coverage for interruptions, delays, lost or delayed baggage, plus medical and evacuation coverage. Good for trips abroad or domestic. Coverage for pre-existing conditions is available if plan is purchased before final trip payment. 

The Drawbacks: The look-back period for pre-existing medical conditions is long (180 days). No cancellation coverage. At least 10 travelers must be on the trip with the same travel dates and all travelers must be insured. Plus, the full cost of the group trip must be insured. Not all benefits are available to residents of all states.

The Bottom Line: This plan is ideal for student groups who don’t need cancellation coverage but require all the common post-departure travel insurance protections.

This plan is unique in that it provides the following:

  • The group plan rates are the same for students and their adult guides.
  • Coverage for pre-existing conditions is available if plan is purchased before final trip payment.
  • Covered reasons for interruption include strikes, severe weather, supplier default, traffic accidents, hospitalization of host, natural disasters and more.
  • Trip interruption covers airfare to return home or to rejoin the original travel itinerary.
  • Evacuation coverage includes a bedside visit if you are hospitalized more than 7 days.
  • The plan includes worldwide travel assistance services to help with medical evacuations, repatriations, medical referrals, translation services, and more.

Limitations

The following are the limitations on this plan’s coverage:

  • No trip cancellation coverage.
  • At least 80% of those traveling must be 35 years old or younger.
  • All travelers must participate in the plan and be traveling to the same destination with the same departure and return dates.
  • You must insure the full cost of the group trip.
  • No travel accident or AD&D coverage.
  • No ‘cancel for any reason’ coverage.
