<description>I purchased a policy from Travel Insurance Services for a trip to Syria and Lebanon this past spring. The U.S. State Department declared that nonessential travel to Syria should be avoided. According to the insurance provider, a terrorist attack is not the same as a revolution, even though Bashar says these individuals are terrorists. Luckily, the tour provider decided to cancel and I received a full refund directly from them.

The insurance was a waste. I was charged a $270. cancellation fee by the airline and paid over $100. for travel insurance. I decided to try a different travel insurance company for the next trip but purchased the cancel for any reason policy. It seems that most of these policies have wording that makes it difficult to understand what is covered and what is not. I think that this industry needs regulation. A trip should be fully refunded by the insurer if the U.S. State Department considers it unsafe for U.S. citizens.

&lt;blockquote&gt;Hi Carrie,

We’re sorry to hear you were unhappy with your insurance. Our company policy is to refund your insurance premium if your tour operator cancels the trip, so that’s what we would have done in this case. We also have a Cancel for Any Reason policy that would have given you a reimbursement for this cancellation.

Please contact us at 1-800-937-1387 or customercare@travelinsure.com so that we can learn more about your situation and how we can help. We pride ourselves on our customer service and want to make sure you are satisfied.

Thank you,
Leslie
