I am very disappointed!!! I wonder how much the `editor` got for its A rating for this scum. I should have read the reviews first. I bought this crap just because i wanted to make sure i could cancel my trip anytime. No way.
They want proof of medical reason blablaba as if it is their business at all. I am very upset. Im gonna miss a very important meeting because of these scumbags.
NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH TRAVEL GUARD!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the comment C, but I want to clarify that we are not paid for good ratings on this site.
I would never use Travel Guard again. I have used it for several trips: two had premiums of over $1,000.00 for African Safaris. We insured our last trip (a little cruise from Baltimore to Bermuda and return) with Travel Guard. We were traveling on Carnival. Carnival was one day late starting the cruise, so we had an extra night and meals in Baltimore. Our total claim was for $148.00. We could not find our receipts for our meals, so they refused any amount for one days meals. They sent us a belated check for a total of $104.84. There claim correspondence was degrading and insulting. This is a company that we had paid over $2,000.00 in premiums for our last three trips.....and they withheld any money whatsoever for our meals for one day because we had no receipts. We did have a bill for the day of the cruise showing $43.00 for meals, so we ask for that and they refused....consequently, we got nothing. Correspondences from them from the very beginning were insulting and degrading. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.

I do not recommend using travel guard. I was hospitalized and unable make a trip for which I purchased TravelGuard Insurance.n They received a letter from the hospital/treating physician but it was not enough.They want all my medical records dating back over 3 months, an invasion of my privacy at best .

I've traveled for years and sometimes I buy the insurance sometimes I don't. If I am going outside the US I ALWAYS buy it...try getting your medical insurance to cover you. Good luck! And when I've put down a big sum for a cruise, I definitely get it in case I have to cancel. I've used Traveguard a few times, and only had to make a claim once, but they covered my cancellation for when I had to stay home because my elderly mother took a turn for the worse -- and yes, it was a pre-existing condition and covered. My advise to anyone buying any plan is to understand what you're covered for. If it's cheap in cost -- buyer beware. Ask the company "what if?" questions. I did that with travelgaurd each time and they were very helpful, and yes, they delivered when I needed them. It's your responsibility to know what you're buying. and get it as soon as you buy your trip. Don't wait or your coverage lacks a few things. Just remember, you get what you pay for!

Honeymoon denied......need I say more? Please read our story:

http://honeymoon-denied.blogspot.com/2011/11/our-story.html?spref=fb

<blockquote>
Reply from Travel Guard:

Mrs. Johnson,

I’ve read your story carefully from beginning to end. It’s very clear both you and your husband have experienced a long and bumpy road in pursuit of a much anticipated honeymoon. It’s obvious you both are extremely resourceful and did everything you could to work through your dilemma. Thank you for bringing your case to our attention. I apologize on behalf of Travel Guard for any confusion you may have experienced in regard to the plan you purchased.

I understand you purchased your travel insurance plan independently through a travel supplier. Although the plan you purchased doesn’t include coverage for weather-related cancellations, we are working directly with the travel supplier to resolve your case to your satisfaction.

For travelers new to travel insurance, it helps to call in advance of purchasing a plan to talk through their trip, the types of risks they are likely to encounter and to set them up with the most appropriate plan for their travel needs.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention. Continued safe travels to you and your husband.
</blockquote>

Purchased 2 round-trip airline tickets from Spirit Airlines in January, 2011 for tickets from Atlantic City to Florida (for a cruise at the end of August.) Also purchased Travel Guard policy at the same time. (Covers Trip Cancellation $300 Per Person, among other things.) Due to Hurricane Irene, Atlantic City was being evacuated. I purchased new tickets on Delta (more than $5 00 for two one-way tickets) and left a day early from Philly instead. Cancelled the first part of the flight on Spirit Airlines (remember, AC was being EVACUATED due to the weather.) Also incurred additional hotel costs. I submitted all of my paperwork, and waited the entire month after I submitted my claim to hear from Travel Guard. They claim they sent me a letter (which I did not receive) stating that my claim is DENIED because the "trip cost" on the policy is blank. (This is a document I received electronically, which is supplied by THEM.) It is is a "default" form, which does not allow any for elections for any other coverage. Here is their definition of "Trip Cost" :

“Trip Cost” means the dollar amount of Trip payments or
deposits reflected on any required enrollment form which
are subject to cancellation penalties or restrictions paid by
the Insured prior to the Insured’s Trip Departure Date. Trip
Cost will also include the cost of any subsequent pre-paid
payments or deposits paid by the Insured for the same Trip,
after enrollment for coverage under the Policy provided the
Insured amends his or her Enrollment Form to add such
subsequent payments or deposits and pays any required
additional plan cost prior to the Insured’s Departure Date.

I paid for the trip with my credit card, so I have proof of costs. So, because THEY (knowingly) did not print this on the form (effectively rendering it "$0.00"), and did not give me the option to choose anything, they can deny my claim? Waiting for a call back from the Analyst (who, "shockingly" was not available to take my call, so I left a message) to explain this to me.

Given the amount of negative posts here, contact with the Attorney General's Office seems almost guaranteed. Travel Guard recording promises a call back within 24 hours. I will not wait beyond that.

We were not able to adopted a baby in China, and had to come home. Sent in a claim, and they rejected it. This company is just looking to make money, no real services and will deny everything no matter what to make you go away.
