Editor Review
The Drawbacks: Depending on the type of sporting equipment you take on your trip, the baggage benefits may not be enough to cover a loss. Depending on the type of adventure you are participating in, the medical coverage may not be enough either (consider the medical upgrade). The Bottom Line: Most travel insurance plans specifically exclude coverage for adventure activities like mountaineering, hang gliding, kayaking and the like, but this plan does not exclude those activities. This plan provides adequate coverage for adventure travel risks while offering upgrades to further guard against financial losses. - Children under 17 are covered at no cost when traveling with a covered adult relative.

- Travel Guard’s signature assistance services and comprehensive adventurer’s assistance, including weather and travel advisories, information on locating the next trail, construction, closure and detour information. All non insurance services are provided by Travel Guard.
- Roadside assistance (up to $50) for towing, delivery of oil, fluids, water or fuel, lock-outs, and jump starts.
- Reimbursement for license fees if you have to cancel your trip.
- Identity theft restoration services are included.
Optional Coverage
The following optional coverage is available when you purchase this plan:
- Optional ‘cancel for any reason’ upgrade available (50% of trip costs).
- Optional medical coverage upgrade (includes hospital of choice).
- Optional flight guard AD&D up to $500,000.
- Optional car rental coverage up to $35,000 ($250 deductible).
- Additional sports equipment coverage up to $2,500.
Limitations
The following are the limitations on this plan’s coverage:
- Delays and missed connection time is relatively short when compared to other plans.
- No ‘cancel for work reasons’ upgrade (but many work-related reasons for cancellations are covered in base plan).
- Medical coverage limit in base plan is relatively low when the risks associated with adventurous activities is factored in.
- The baggage coverage (loss and delay) in base plan is inclusive of sports equipment, so if everything is lost, the coverage may not be enough.
