The service provided by HTH is extremely deceptive: they have nice packages, but will then refuse to sell them to you if they suspect your health is not perfect or may deteriorate during your travels.

My wife and I did get approved, but then all claims got denied because of lack of information. The strange and annoying part about it is that they never told us the claim was lacking details, as a matter of fact one month after submitting the claim when we asked what the status was they told us it was being processed and would be resolved soon so we did not bother to contact them again for another 2 months, thinking it was just slow to process!

What is the point of having travel insurance if you are going to end up spending months fighting for the claim?

Dear Remi,

My name is Kim Whitney and I am a customer service manager at HTH Worldwide. I would like to talk to you so we can address your claim problem. I apologize for the inconvenience. It seems that there was some miscommunication from our customer service department. Would you mind contacting me at kwhitney@hthworldwide.com or 1 888 243 2358?

To give you some background, there can be a number of issues that hold up claims payments. Sometimes medical providers do not use the correct billing codes in the United States. Sometimes international providers offer almost no detail associated with charges. Sometimes there is a pre-existing condition review on certain HTH Worldwide policies. We apologize that the issue was not more clearly communicated when you contacted us.

Our short term plans are guaranteed issue with no medical underwriting required: TravelGap, TripProtect, TripProtector, Global Student USA and US Students Abroad. It appears you may have bought one of our long term, expatriate health plans: Global Citizen or Global Navigator. These plans are primary health insurance for longer episodes of international living. Similar to most carriers in the U.S., we do full medical underwriting on these programs and coverage is not guaranteed. We review an applicant’s health history. If accepted onto one of these plans there is a 6 month pre-existing conditions waiting period (12 months for Navigator). As such, claims incurred in that time period can be pended for pre-existing conditions review. This waiting period can be waived with suitable evidence of prior credible coverage.

I thank you for your feedback. I would appreciate the opportunity to resolve your specific problem if you contact me personally.

I bought a travel policy with a million dollar medical limit for $14 for a 8 day trip and they pick up the full $1,350 hospital bill in London when I tripped and broke my arm. Best $14 I ever spent!!

I've used HTH several times after receiving a recommendation from my brother who was on one of the student plans and I have always had a good experience with the company. Last year, when my wife become very ill with food poisoning in Costa Rica, all I had to do was call their 24/7 collect number and they quickly found us a local ER to go to and even set up direct billing so we paid nothing out of pocket and everything was covered in full. Very friendly and knowledgable staff. Highly recommended.

If it were possible to give zero stars, I would do so. This insurance company has not been helpful. Like the other review says, filing claims is a nightmare. My boyfriend and I submitted are claims together in the same email with the same pdf attachments, but for some reasons they only received his claim and not mine. When we were out of the country and needed to come home early due to sickness, we called them to see what we could do and what the insurance would cover. They were not helpful at all and couldn't give us any information. I advise you to purchase insurance with another company.

The policy choices are very good.

Filing a Claim is a nightmare. I've mailed documents, emailed twice and all Customer Service says is we have no claim for you. It has now been SIX weeks and still 'no claim has been received'.

Everyone is very polite.
