The Good: Offered in two levels: standard and enhanced, this travel insurance plan is for the risks that travelers face on driving vacations. This plan is secondary coverage and provides financial protection if you’re renting a vehicle or even taking your own vehicle. This plan covers entire families and children under 17 are free. A few package-like benefits such as baggage coverage, trip cancellation, and interruption are also included.

The Drawbacks: The trip cancellation coverage is not high, and depending on your trip it may not be enough to cover all your non refundable expenses if you have to cancel. The emergency medical transportation is relatively low when compared to other plans.

The Bottom Line: Affordable protection for that all-American vacation, the road trip. It covers those expenses likely to be a problem for road-tripping families: automobile deductibles in the case of an accident, deductibles and out-of-network medical expenses, and roadside assistance.

Plan Details

This plan is unique in that it provides the following:

This plan includes $500 in supplemental auto coverage, which covers automobile insurance deductibles in case of an accident on your trip.
Includes a vehicle return benefit up to $500 to return your vehicle if you are injured or hospitalized and can’t get your vehicle home.
24-hour assistance, including concierge services, is included with this plan.
Plan includes fee reimbursement to redeposit frequent traveler or loyalty program points.
Pre-existing medical conditions are covered (purchase the plan within 14 days of your initial trip payment) and cover the full cost of your non refundable trip arrangements.
Covered reasons for trip cancellation and interruption are broad and include injury and illness, traffic accidents, stolen car, natural disasters, loss of employment or revoked leave, and more.
Two adults are covered under the plan, and additional adults can be added at $15.00 per adult.
Roadside assistance services are provided through Cross Country Motor Club.

Limitations

The following are the limitations on this plan’s coverage:

Trip cancellation benefits are limited and, depending on your travel plan, may not provide enough reimbursement if you have to cancel or abandon your trip.
Trips must be 45 days or less.
For trips over 7 days, an additional daily rate of $5 applies.
