All About the Hittites

In the history of the world, every civilization is important. Every single tribe of people that has ever existed has contributed in at least some small way in making the world what it is today. Here’s a look at the Hittites.

Hittite Studies

The Hittites were a population of people based in Asia Minor reigning from 1600 to 1200 B.C. The empire was the chief cultural power source in Asia from 1400 to 1200 and their influence was widely felt. They were the front runners of the Iron Age and were manufacturing iron products from the 14th century BC and they were also famous for building chariots. These chariots also ensured that they were a military force to be reckoned with.

Ancient Anatolia

Anatolia used to be one of Asia Minor’s most powerful regions. It was home to many of the world’s most influential civilizations including the Lydians, Greeks, Armenians, Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, and the Hittites. Today, the area is known as the Republic of Turkey and its history is carefully preserved.

Excavations

As it is with all ancient civilizations, most information about them comes from artifacts and documents that have been dug out of the ruins of their civilizations. Excavations have been going on in the region the Hittites lived in since the 1880s and lots of artifacts and other objects have been uncovered since they began.

Other Information on the Hittites

There was more to the Hittites than their iron work. They had a rich religious culture and a very complex language. The Hittites made immense improvements to the daily lives of people in the age and they achieved some impressive feats even by today’s standards.

Images

Most of the remaining Hittite images come in the form of artifacts. Broken pottery, tools, tablets and similar items managed to survive the ravages of time. Even some remnants of paintings remain.

General Ancient Mesopotamia

Mesopotamia has one of the most illustrious histories in the world. Many of the world’s most influential and long-lasting civilizations rose and fell in this area. This area, located in what is now present-day Iraq, is often called the “cradle of divination”. The Bronze Empire and the Iron Age originated from Mesopotamia.
