The Pacific Whale Foundation uses the island folk to assist in The Great Whale Count, an annual event that counts the number of humpback whales spotted from each of the islands.

March

Annual Shoebox Sculpture is an international event, held each March in Hawaii. This features over 150 sculptures designed to adhere to space and scale of the size of a shoebox.

Annual Woodturners Event is held annually in Hilo, Hawaii. Among the many artisans of this state, woodturners show off their exhibits on style and technique.

April

Annual Kona Chocolate Festival is held at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa. Activities include an evening gala with a chocolate taste-off competition. World-renowned chefs judge both amateur and professional entries in various categories. Daily educational events include seminars. Silent auction and other proceeds go to local charitable chef programs and school.

Easter weekend is the three-day, annual Celebration of the Arts and commemorates Hawaii’s culture and heritage from past to future. Community leaders hold workshops and seminars for adults and children. Each year has a different theme, but each event includes famous artists and closes with a celebration luau and show.

The last weekend in April is the East Maui Taro Festival. This cultural event, embracing the staple food of the island, features local musicians, food booths offering kalo dishes, a farmer’s market, and tours. Poi-pounding is another activity in which tourists get to experience the work-out of mashing the taro into a sweet dough-like substance alongside the natives.

Memorial Day in Hawaii is the annual Lantern Floating Ceremony. Ala Moana Beach is the location of this commemorative event to honor those lives lost in wars and loved ones who have passed away.

June

Pan-Pacific Festival is held the 1st weekend in June and is the annual cultural exchange of events between Hawaii and Japan, and throughout the years, it has evolved to include other countries along the Pacific Rim. Activities include ethnic cuisine of participating nationalities, song and dance, an evening street party, and concludes with a grand parade. Taste of Hawaii is held the 1st Sunday each June. This event brings together native islanders and visitors to sample culinary delights and get up close and personal with Hawaii’s best chefs. The Annual Sunset Sail is a fundraiser sail where attendants enjoy the observation of constellations and planets in summer. Proceeds benefit the Wild Dolphin Foundation.

The Haleiwa Summer Artfest features over a hundred exhibits, with music, dancing, food sampling, and various sports activities and entertainment offered at the local resorts.

August

The Annual Big Island Marlin Tournament offers big game fishing for cash.

The Annual Greek Festival in Hawaii offers both islanders and tourists a great day of Greek food, wine and coffee, arts and music, and a cultural display of Greece.

September

The Okinawan Festival is a three-day celebration of Hawaiian culture through food, live performances, arts and crafts, and the grand finale of a Japanese Obon dance.

Aloha Festivals take place all over Hawaii in September. This cultural event celebrates the island’s music, arts, food, and history with hundreds of events.

October

 Halloween in Lahaina is a huge celebration with costume contests in several categories, and much food and drink along Front Street, in Maui.

November

The Kona Coffee Festival is the oldest of Hawaiian festivals, and the only one held in the United States.

December

Honolulu's City Lights is the festive tree lighting ceremony, offering food, rides, music, displays and much more.
