Squaremouth.com is an easy, user-friendly website for comparing travel insurance policies. The site is arranged very simply, with good navigation, and several calls to action in the form of brightly colored “Get Quote Now” buttons. The landing page features a flash presentation outlining travel insurance benefits:

At the quote page, you will see some questions about your trip. This is the basic information needed to give you an instant quote; trip dates, trip payment date, destination, residence, type of trip, ages, etc.

This takes 1-2 minutes to fill out. There is no personal information such as name, email, or address needed at this point. Just fill out these eight questions, click “click here to quote”, and you will get instant quotes for your trip insurance.

Also notice how they explain each question and why it is necessary. Throughout the site there are many opportunities to “Click here for more info”, which is very helpfull. See screenshot below:

On the quote results page, you will see a listing of several travel insurance products. Down the left side are the policy names and the company that sells them. The middle column displays the basic policy coverage (i.e.,”100% of the trip cost”). To the right of that is the SQM Rating, which is squaremouth’s proprietary rating system. Finally on the far right you will the policy price, and buttons for “buy” and “view”.

I recommend you compare some policies side-by-side. On the far left of the screen you will see checkboxes. Select a few policies and click the “click here to compare” button at the top of the left column. A new window will open with the following screen:

Here you can see all the different policy benefits side-by-side. This will help you begin making decisions about what coverage you need, and what you don’t need.

Again, just about everything on this page is a clickable link, which will open a small window explaining that term. When you are done just close the window to continue your research.

For more indepth research, you can click the “Certificate” button to read the actual policy certificate with all the small print. If you find a plan you like, click the “Buy” button and you will be taken to a secure order page.
